completing the documentary... now

I am in the initial phase of the final stage of completing this project.
However, I recently reached the City of Rimini on Twitter @visit_rimini or at http://www.visit-rimini.com/. They have some video on their website from a few years ago!

I am hopeful that we might work together to collaborate on the Paganello Documentary as the original vision was to cover three main subjects: The Tournament (which is centered around the city), the Team and the Sport.

Perhaps with their support this project could target a full length documentary that would include historical footage as well as a stronger focus on the culture of the hosting city, Rimini!!

Here is a tease of the work we have done in 7 minutes: http://current.com/items/89383560_frisbee_kings. Please keep in mind I did not do this original edit, and Current.com made further edits to make it more palatable to their viewers. My documentary will have a different feel to it as it is a cultural documentary about a sport.. not strictly a sports doc.

Social Networking.. and the research

Quickly the introduction of Online Social Networking has become a time captivating interest.
It was a moment last year, while I was approaching one of the local high schools about starting an Ultimate team. I asked if one of the students would be the liaison at the school, to relieve my need from being present for all communications. Everyone pointed to one boy in the class. When I asked him for his email address, his head cocked and his nose wrinkled, “I don’t really check my email much anymore.” When I asked how he stayed in touch and communicated with his friends he said, “All my friends are on facebook now. I only use email for old people.”
Let me clarify that I am enjoying the aging process.. I intend to increase the amount of attention to contribution that I will make as I age. The maturation of a human into an elder is a beautiful something. That said, It is the younger generations that I most want to impact. The result was signing up for Facebook. Since then, I have had multiple people tell me, “Follow me on Twitter.” I think it was @christinekane who caused the tipping point.

Now, the level of my email box is finally receding. The leftovers include my folks and some of the “too busy to save time” typeofpeople... bless their hearts.

Now, I barely even blog. Its all micro sized blogs. 140 characters and I am done. All except on Present.ly. I LOVE THIS SERVICE!! It includes all the microblogging characteristics with the advent of an additional text box that, I think, is unlimited. Ontopofthat, it is a private network.. and I am utilizing it for business relations (as the www.HatchAsheville.com Volunteer Coordinator, with www.BuildSmartAlliance.com and a project I call Distributed Executive Business Development)

Microblogging stops the urge (that, at this moment, I am taking the liberty to express) toward verbosity. It forces the communication into tiny compartment sized mouthfuls. And this requires creativity for those birds who have alot to say (right @FakerParis and @THE_REAL_SHAQ )... and they still find ways to exercise their verbose natures. Much love to truncation.

Time for breakfast. Can’t tweet anymore for the morning.

organization... and some good footage

got through the 27 hours of the main footage review. organized this down to bins and sequences.. next is the full on scrub.
will start with the interviews (9 of them)
At this point I will probably stop and collect the stories, organize them into an storyline and determine what game footage, broll and music materials to use to give the story some visual and auditory appeal.

soon, i will have some teasers to release to the public.

ciao.

organizing now... then to scrubbing

another 6 hours into organizing the raw clips into masters so I can scrub them for the best parts. the games are long and there are some excellent scenes. the scrubbing process requires that i sit down and watch every second from BOTH cameras. while watching i will pick out the best parts and file them away to develop the sequences, this is called scrubbing (I think).

anyway, I am through Friday of the tournament... that is the first day of play. and started on Saturday, day 2 but didnt get very far... its time to sleep and get back to the rest of my life.

i am calling in for auxiliary support from the team. music, broadcasting and project management are among the top priorities for the support. with the help from the teammates i can focus on the video while much of the outside work is still getting done! no way i will finish this by november without their support!!

Props to Lisa and Marc for a TERRIFIC job on the shoot. the footage is so fun to work with... most of the time I want to keep all the footage!!

my favorite parts so far are the interviews!!! I love hearing people tell these stories on camera.

good night eWorld

kick start on the documentary

I am about to purchase the machine to start the edit on the documentary. I am hoping that the distance from the project will lend me a new eye to be able to see clearly the direction that I will take this project.

There is a long road ahead, starting with sitting down to watch a full 18 hours of footage!!

Thanks for reading.

an excellent story about sales

I love stories that capture the essence of mastery. Here is the latest one I read on LinkedIn Answers. The question: Best sales person you've ever worked with... What makes them great?.

I met a great sales guy in a local train.

Two of them selling hair bands for women came into compartment. While one just passed through a bunch of guys sitting next to the door, another one stopped and asked the guys if he they want to buy the band.
Guys had good laugh before asking what makes him think they need the hair band. He suggested that you can give it to your sister, mother or any other female. What if they dont like it or require it ? asked another guy.
He said, "They will like that you care about them and the band is costing you dirt".

All the guys sitting there bought one pair each.

Upcoming events: Texas Shootout, LEAF and the Mountain Sports Festival

A few upcoming events:
Here are three events that are going to rock!

Texas Shootout (May 2-3), in Austin, that's this weekend. Seany Mac (big brother) is organizing this for the fourth year. Check out the website for more details about who is going to show and the history of the event. Check out the title for this website when you go there!! It says The Science of Turning Ultimate into Money! Well done, Bro.

Next up is Spring LEAF and Moonshine & Mayhem (May 9-11), both in Swannanoa, North Carolina next weekend. Ultimate at this LEAF is going to ROCK! I've got supporters that are going to present educational activities and organize games.. as well as non-disc games... look out for the Capture the Flag games, Josh is a master at presenting these games!! Bring your camo.

new gift Idea... for ME!

This evening.. in the midst of the evening chaos of a family of 5 meeting for dinner with 2 more. I decided I was going to rock and roll on the piano a bit. Then, I was inspired to rattle on with a few more riffs. The enjoyment was so liberating that I jumped in all the way and started really banging the keys. I think it sounded decent... I dont know... I just know that it was elating to play some rock and roll without really thinking about anything else.

One day, I dream that I will play the keys like Fess (aka Doctor Professor Longhair) or Old lovinghair as the ladies call him. Here is a gift idea for me: http://www.louisianamusicfactory.com/showonemerch.asp?TypeID=74&ProductID=30037

Also, today I delivered my 10th speech at Toastmasters. That was interesting! This means I am awarded with the Competent Communicator status.

Warren Wilson College Team Update

The season is drawing to a close and the team is more composed than ever. The usual drop out has occurred, but there is strong leadership in place and a strong work ethic to carry the load.
The North Carolina Section is going to have their hands full with WWC this year!!

Just last weekend the team won their first tournament!! Here is a message from the capt:

Warren-Wilson College Men's team went to the Blue Ridge Thawout this weekend and took home the championship. Saturday was a beautiful day in the valley and when the rain finally stopped we were greeted by dense fog and a very unique environment for ultimate. Every player that attended (asher, kyle, graham, greg, mcfly, linden, matt, jamie, alex, alec, aaron and of course chris larson) played very very well and each individual came up with some very important plays and the right time.

Scores are as follow (to the best of my memory)

Saturday involved some serious domination with losing teams being:

JMU-B
Virginia Tech-B
ETSU
UNCA

Sunday we saw some more competition with one more pool play game in the morning and then the ch

WWC - 13 and NCSU-B - 2

Q: WWC- 13 and Marble City 11
S: WWC- 13 and ETSU 4
F: WWC- 15 and Boone Alumni 11

Hell of a job gentlemen, way to stick together and win!

Graham said it best when he said we played exciting huck ultimate when we could and when we needed to bring it down a notch and play some boring short pass ultimate we did that too. Lets keep the intensity for two more weeks, we can do it!

Hope the entire club had a nice weekend and I look forward to seeing you out there on Tuesday!

end of the road... back to munich

we finished strong with a 16-10 victory over Huck and Sea from England. we played relaxed and confident (and less hung over than our opponents).

the great news about this game was we were able to wear shorts and play in the sun. by 3pm when the open finals started it was gusty, rainy and bitter cold! SeXXXpensive lost to Scandal from Chicago. everything was filmed by the pros that work this event every year, and the coverage is typically good. so, i look forward to actually watching the game in the future.

we are wrapping things up with the final interviews and Marq and Lisa are capturing the tapes in digital format. now, the work begins!! everything till now has been preparing the canvas, the paints, the palette, and the scene... and Lisa reminded me that post-production requires loads more work and even bigger requests from the personal contacts we have established.

on a final note in Rimini: i will miss this place, though i am confident that a return is imminent. who knows, but i imagine Diana and the children will be brought along.

enough for now, one more opportunity for bio gelato!!

ciao ciao

roller coaster

recently i was referred (by one of my teammates) as the most eloquent dirty old man, all i have at this moment is dirty old and man.
anyway, this has been a ride ups and downs. unfortunately, we ended on the down.

this morning we crushed CotaRica, the Rimini local team! in 2005, we witnessed (along with 3000 others) them winning the finals against Collard Greens (from Atlanta). anyway, we handled them well at 11-5.

then we saw Stinks from Sweden. they were seeded 2 in this tournament, we were 1. this was the quarter final game and we succeeded in displacing them. near the end of the game the rain came and cold was brought with it.

two hours later we started the semifinal game against SeXXXpensive, my good friends from all around Europe! they opened with a break and continued to hold the game all the way to 5-9 to win for the finals. so we are playing for 3rd place. and i am heartbroken.

now, we will walk from paga forever without the second umbrella. but we are certain to leave our mark... for tonight is the party of parties... and NoTsuOh brings a party!!!

ciao for now

pagareport :: 03/22/08

day 2
good news: the weather is treating us right!!
other news: we lost our first game to Scadour. these guys are our close friends, players who have invited us to help train them in the sport and who have improved significantly! they stormed the field ready for the kill... but struggled with mistakes until 6-3 (our advantage and the time cap sounded). they returned with 4 straight points to win the game! ouch, that stung. what do experienced players do when they get socked in the guy? they bow up and retaliated!!
the next f games we crushed teams that we should be crushing.
game 6 we repeated our mistake of letting a team back in the game after we took a strong lead. as i tell the warren wilson team, COMPLACENCY IS A KILLER. many of us partied late (i didnt make it home till 4am, thats another story... feel free to ask me about it). so, i know for me, i was not in a good mental state, nor physical state.
tomorrow morning we play the Italian Champions Cota Rica!! we MUST win this game, or we are out of the running for the cup. i expect the sting of the two losses will amount to a strong show, but cota will bring everything they have to the pitch as well... it should be a powerful match

documentary: Lisa and Marq are rocking with the documentary!! they have had two cameras on our games and have positioned interviews with key people at the tournament as well as on our team. i have not had the time to review any of the footage, but things are moving forward in a very positive direction. the team is behind the project and supportive of each aspect. i expect the final product will exceed our expectations!

to answer the requests for PREORDERS: i am working on creating a cart where you will be able to submit a donation to support the project. we are asking for a minimum of $25, which will include an exclusive DVD in addition to the complete documentary (when we are complete with production) as well as a NoTsuOh gift (while supplies last).
please send me an email (brettmccall at gmail dot com) and let me know you are interested in making a donation... I will make sure you know when we have the portal set up!

is New Orleans on the way to Rimini?

In one week I will be in New Orleans working with Ty and the ABC crew to build a couple of buildings for a wonderfully deserving family and community!!
Shortly after I return to Western North Carolina I will depart for Munich enroute to Rimini!! The Muncheners, Harry and Rue, are out in full swing with the support of lodging and transport.

In Munich I will pick up Lisa Thompson, the producer/director of the documentary. I am thrilled to work with Lisa, she has produced some really fun work, and I am confident that her style is going to capture the right EMOTION and CONNECTION that good material deserves!!

Time is moving at lightning speed and the logistics are coming together wonderfully.

Soon, we will capture and edit some of the work from last year, as well as the interviews that are rolling in from players this year. Look for a teaser to come out by March 17!!

check out the SWEET video I found from last year!!!
It is way tripped out. enjoy bam

Quote from Rick Pitino's book

I have returned to one my favorite books, Success is a Choice, by one of the most inspirational modern-day coaches, Rick Pitino. Here is the quote that sums up the day:

When you go to the table with greatness, everyone eats better.
~Rick Pitino

The coolest part about this book is its accessibility to simply anyone on any project with any group of people. It is certainly part of my regular diet of success in business and sports!!

Today, at the Deltec plant, we celebrated the 55kwh solar array on our roof! It was a wonderful engagement with speakers: David Hall (Deltec President), Charles Thomas (NC House Representative for Buncombe County), Craig DeBrew (of Progress Energy) and Heath Shuler (US Representative for the 11th District of North Carolina). What a cool experience to be part of. I am ecstatic to represent and work with such a progressive company!! And it gets better...
As David Hall put it, "This is NOT the culmination of our greening efforts."

...more to come.
