language, ultimate and thegreatestsporteverinvented

First, I went to train the Warren Wilson College Ultimate team yesterday. The leadership had been asking me to address spread offense. I had also just seen them at their own tournament, Pork Classic, the prior weekend so I had some pointers that I thought would radically help their game. So, I pushed them hard, focused on shortening their game and tightening them up. Then I introduced the zone like spread offense and encouraged them to open up the long game. Everything in between was unsatisfactory.
I pushed them hard and they responded like a well toned muscle springing into action at each prompt. I was impressed by their discipline and their eager attention to the details I was laying out.
They still have 10 weeks of training they need before their throws will be primed for a solid spread offense, but they are off to a fantastic start.

Then, today, I was moodling and found Christina Kane's recent posting called watch your language and my mind went wild with ideas (as my mind has the tendency to frequently binge on crazy).

In another few keystrokes, I landed on an email from one of the 5Ultimate guys with a link to a book called: the greatest sport ever invented by man. Nice title choice Leonardo!

While I was washing the dishes this evening Diana asked me if something was wrong. I snapped out of an intense daze where I was on the sidelines at the WWC game, happening at that very same moment, and realized that my obsession is only growing. Coaching the receptive players at WWC, seeing them improve, dreaming about the sport... its my greatest passion. "I was dreaming about Ultimate. That's all."
Now, I just need to manage how I can coach twice a week, make a few tournaments and some of the weekly games. I am not even eager to step on the field as a player... I just want to coach those players who want to grow!!!

Pass the word.
